Orijin upper control arm bushings

Preludes have a double wishbone suspension all around. This means that the suspension is held by two control arms. The upper control arm is mounted to the chassis and connected to the hub assembly using a ball joint. On the right you see the arm pictured. Because they have to move up and down along with the struts, there are two hinges on the chassis side. Between the hinges are rubber bushings that absorb the shocks. Unfortunately these ofter wear out due to aging and drying out.



These are two arms of which the bushings are completely worn out. When they are really dried out and aged, pieces of rubber can crumble off. When this starts to happen, you'll notice it soon enough by the noise and the decreased handling of the car. When the car is lowered, the bushings will wear out even sooner.
So my old worn-out bushings will have to be replaced. I could replace them by new standard ones, but I found out aftermarket bushings are available in Canada. After a bit of research about the quality and experiences with this kit, I ordered them. These units are not made of rubber, but a hard kind of plastic, much like PVC. They won't absorb any shocks and this will affect ride harshness. However, it'll be a harsh ride anyway when the car is finished.
The new bushings are installed on these locations. But first, the old ones will have to be pressed out and the arms themselves will first be powdercoated.
On this photo the state of the old bushings can clearly be seen. They're completely twisted apart and no longer function. As soon as the bushings are replaced, more photos will be posted.
De orginele bushings zitten in een metalen bus die in de draagarm geperst zit. Deze metalen bussen moeten eruit geperst worden, want anders passen de Orijin bushings er niet in.
Nadat alle delen gepoedercoat zijn, kan ik de draagarmen weer in elkaar zetten. De nieuwe bushings smeer ik eerst goed in met lagervet voordat ze gemonteerd worden, omdat dit de levensduur vergroot.
Ik heb de nieuwe geassembleerde draagarm even naast een oude draagarm gelegd. Een wereld van verschil he?
Dit zijn ze dan alle vier. Het is bijna zonde om ze te gaan monteren, want ze zijn echt mooi. Ook de bouten bovenop zijn nieuw.
