| Buildup |
I expected the build-up
of the car, and most of all the build-up of the interior and engine
bay, to be one of the hardest parts of the project. Looking back it
was not. Most important is knowing where to put what, in which order.
I started with putting the main car wiring loom roughly in place.
Next I installed all the parts running through the firewall, and then
built up the dashboard.

Every part in the
engine bay not made of metal or aluminium was cleaned and put back.
The engine wiring loom was freshly taped in, the connectors cleaned,
most hoses and every nut replaced by new ones. Everything under the
hood has to be new once finished.
|
Things would have
been a lot harder without the use of my laptop. I made a lot of digital
photos while stripping my car, which I looked at during the build-up.
This made things really easy. Every time I didn't know which part was
located where in the interior or engine bay, I looked at the photos
of these parts.

The floor carpet
was installed here, as well as the bigger part of the dash. In fact
everything just fell into place.
|
While the interior
was still this far stripped, it was easy to reach everything. An excellent
opportunity to neatly build away my alarm-unit and wiring. Alongside
the ECU there's plenty of space to install the unit.

The air filter will
be housed in the location of the battery, so that has to go. The battery
will be mounted in the trunk, so the plus-cables had to be extended. These
cables have to be sufficiently thick because a lot of power is transferred
when starting the engine. The two red cables in the picture run through
the wire wall, the right side-sill, along the rear seats, to the trunk.
I used extra isolation to protect the cables against possible damage which
could result in short-circuits. Also, right behind the battery the cables
were fused.

As soon as the rear
seats were installed, it more and more began to resemble a car.
